Afang Soup

What can I say about this beautiful, delicious and hearty soup other than, if you have not had it before, you should try and cook it. It is rich and packed with all the nutrients you need. If you are on a diet and you are not sure if you can have some Nigerian soups because of the oil content and all, then this soup is for you.

Yam and plantain frittata

Frittata is an egg dish that can be eaten as a main meal or brunch. It is slightly different from an omelette as you have to finish a frittata off in an oven. Also all the ingredients used are folded in the egg and cooked. You can choose any filling you want and make it your own. For this dish I chose plantain and yam,

Refreshing zobo drink (zobo tutu)

The weather is getting warmer and better by the day and I really wish it stays this way. Lawd! I can’t deal with the cold weather. Last weekend, the weather was very fair to us and I decided to grace it by making a very popular drink I grew up having back in Nigeria, Zobo. Zobo is a dried type of leaf and it is also called hibiscus leaf or sorrel and it can be easily sourced from the market.

5 minutes coleslaw

When you see carrots and cabbage lying fallow in your fridge, what comes to mind? Coleslaw right? Well, if you are a huge fan of coleslaw, then this 5 minutes recipe is for you. Take the regular coleslaw to another level by adding spring onions and coconut shavings to it. Coconut to me, takes most dish to a whole new level.

Semolina Pancake with coconut milk and caramelised banana

Whilst growing up, I remember my mum making pancakes for us with corn flour. Truth be told, it is one of the best pancakes I have ever eaten. It has a taste I can’t really describe but it is divine.

Recently, I was looking for what to cook for breakfast and pancake came to mind. I thought of the closest thing to corn flour and I decided to use semolina powder. They are quite similar if you ask me.

Mango Lassi…

Don’t let your mango go to waste now that it is in season. Mango lassi is one of the many ways you can enjoy mango other than just eating it. It is served as dessert/drink in India and Bangladesh. It can either be served as a savoury or sweet drink. You can jazz it up with honey and spices if you want.

Ila alasepo (okra soup)

As easy as this soup is, I always make a call to my mum still, to ask for the recipe all over again each time I need to cook it (don’t ask me, I don’t know why I do it). My mama makes the best okra soup ever, whether plain or the one pot soup and she doesn’t mess about in the kitchen, she knows her onions. I made this okra soup on Sunday after church and I couldn’t help but share with my fellow foodies.

efo riro…

I’m still on about valentine and #bae. Valentine should not leave you out of pocket and should not be a thing of impressing others for the wrong reasons. We should learn to embrace change and do something new sometimes. If you go out on a date night at every val’s day, why not give it a miss this year and stay at home to cook something really quick and special for your love.
