My love for smoked turkey has got no bounds at the moment, if I tell you I hated smoked turkey when I first tried it, would you believe it?
I hated it so much that I stopped buying and cooking it. I recently started cooking smoked turkey again after I used the recipe below and I also add it to soups like egusi and efo-riro. In my opinion, the best way to enjoy smoked turkey is to grill it before cooking. I really can’t remember again, but I think I used to boil my smoked turkey and this made me hate the taste even more. Ever since I started grilling and making smoked turkey this way, I haven’t looked back. This recipe is quick and straight forward. It requires four or less ingredients. This peppered smoked turkey will be good on your table especially when entertaining guests. Also I chose not to add salt to this recipe because it tastes good without it but if you want salt in yours, don’t hesitate to add it. Righto foodie fam, let’s get cooking
What you will need
6-10 pieces smoked turkey/chicken
1large red bell pepper (tatashe)
Scotch bonnet chillies (use according to preference)
1 onion, chopped
1-2 serving spoon vegetable oil
Preheat the grill
Add the bell pepper, scotch bonnet chillies, onions and spring onions to a food processer and pulse till pepper is coarse. Empty into a bowl and set aside.
Add the smoked turkey to a roasting pan and place under grill until they are dry and well done
Place a pan on a medium heat and add vegetable oil, heat for about 2 minutes and add the blended pepper. Stir into the oil to combine and add the seasoning cubes.
Continue to cook for another 10 to 15 minutes making sure you stir in-between to avoid burning. Cook until you see the oil almost floating on the surface of the sauce. Add the grilled smoked turkey to the sauce and stir to combine. Cook for another 5 minute, check for salt and seasoning and take it off the heat and serve immediately with mains of choice.
