- 1 or more whole garlic heads use as many as you have/want
- olive oil or any other flavourless oil like rapeseed oil avocado oil etc
- Sea salt optional
Preheat oven to 180⁰C/385F.
Peel the papery outer layer of the garlic and cut the head of the garlic about ½ inches. Place the garlic bulb on a foil paper, drizzle with olive oil and cover with tightly with the foil.
Roast in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until garlic is very soft, lightly browned and caramel in colour. Remove from oven and allow roasted garlic to cool.
Squeeze garlic clove out of its skin with your hand or use a fork to remove each clove. when ready to use, mash roasted garlic with a fork, add a pinch of salt and use as desired.
How to Store Roasted Garlic
Roasted garlic can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you want it to last longer, put it in a storage jar and submerge it with enough oil and store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Roasted garlic would last up to 3 months in the freezer
How long to roast garlic in the oven and air fryer
If roasted at 200C/ 400F then anywhere between 35 to 45 minutes should be fine. Keep an eye, well-roasted garlic should be golden brown and soft to touch. It should slide out of the papery pocket when pressed.
Air fryer: wrap the garlic bulb individually, add oil and wrap tightly. There is no need to preheat the air fryer. Cook at 190C/385C for 20 to 25 minutes.
