These oven-baked yam chips right here are crispy, light and healthy. Take the guilt out of eating fried yam chips and bake them in the oven instead. Swap puna yam for sweet potatoes and you can customise the chips to any flavour you want and you may choose to keep them simple with just salt and very little oil. These chips is healthy when eaten in moderation.
Yam Chips
I was feeling peckish the other day and I didn't want to open a packet of crisps because I have now decided to start watching my height again. Hahaha! I made my own garlic and salted baked yam chips instead.
All you need to make this easy peasy healthy snacks is you, your puna yam or any other kind of yams like sweet potatoes, a sharp knife or slicer or mandolin and any spices of choice. Oh! and oven and if you don't have an oven, simply fry the yam chips and eat less, lol. To make these chips healthier, use dehydrator or oven fryer.
Ingredients
Yam tuber (300g)
Salt
Sugar optional
2tbsp veg oil (I used garlic infused oil)
How to make yam chips
- Preheat the oven at 180C/356F
- Peel the puna yam (or sweet potatoes) and cut lengthways or crossways and slice them thinly with a knife or a mandolin slicer.
- Add the sliced yam to a bowl, add enough water to cover, salt to taste, sugar and leave to rest for about half an hour or longer.
- Drain the water from the yam and place the thinly sliced yam on a kitchen towel to drain out excess moisture. Add the yam chips to a bowl, add 2 tbsp oil and toss to combine
- Place a baking sheet in a baking tray, spread the sliced yam on the tray then place in an oven and bake for 15-25 minutes or till it is well baked.
Take the yam chips out of the oven and place in a bowl, toss in some sugar (optional) and salt and leave to cool and enjoy with this sour cream and chives dip or any other dips of choice

pls how can I preserve the baked yam chip for a month at least???
Ajoke says
Store in an airtight container. I am not sure if it would last up to a month as it's not fried. Hopefully it should be fine if the yam is thinly sliced
