Oven baked flour tortilla chips made from scratch. I have made them with 4 ingredients flour tortilla, oil, garlic and salt. Oven baked tortilla chips are easy to make, healthy and it only requires little prep time. I would be surprised if you spent more than 5 minutes prepping for it.
Homemade tortilla chips can be made with either flour tortilla or corn tortilla. You might find us in the UK calling it crisps. Yeah, cos crisps sound better like chips right! These chips are so easy to make, and you can pair them with any dip or salsa of choice. I have paired mine with one of UK’s favourite dips, sour cream and chive dip
This recipe is a great way to make use of any leftover flour tortilla. With a family of four, it means we are usually left with either 4 or 2 flour tortilla after having over favourite chicken wraps or chicken shawarma. Also, when we do this, we reduce food waste. I try as much as possible to avoid food waste. Often time, you'll find me making some smoothie or having fruits frozen because my eldest daughter likes watching fruits sit in the fruit bowl but not eating them. lol
Back to my healthy homemade flour tortilla chips, they can be baked or fried. Use any seasoning blend of choice for different flavours or keep it simple with salt and pepper. My chips are seasoned with salt and minced garlic
What you need to make homemade oven baked tortilla chips
Flour tortilla (swap with corn tortilla)
Vegetable oil (any neutral flavoured oil would work fine too)
Minced garlic
Salt
How to make baked flour tortilla chips from scratch
Preheat the oven at 180⁰C/375F
Line a baking tray with a parchment paper
Add vegetable oil, minced garlic and salt into a small bowl and mix to combine
Using a pastry brush, brush both sides of the tortilla with the garlic oil mixture. Then stack them on top of one another as you’ve oiled both sides.
With a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the flour tortilla into equal wedges or triangles. Arrange tortilla wedges on the lined baking tray in a single layer.
Bake the chips for 10 to 12 minutes or until crispy and golden. I used 2 baking trays for the portion of chips I made rotating them once in-between baking for even cooking. If you are unable to do this, repeat the process of baking the chips in portions until all flour tortilla wedges are exhausted.
Leave the chips to cool before serving.
Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. I would be surprise if they last that long though

Why didn't I think of this? These are SO easy and can be customized to whatever mood we're in. I do have to keep an eye on them as my oven heats unevenly and I did over-brown part of the tray. Otherwise they are crispy and delicious!
