In case you are thinking, why the heck do I need to make Italian seasoning recipe from scratch when I can use a store bought. Well, you are right; it is very affordable to buy one but make yourself proud and throw this seasoning together in 2 minutes. Maybe 5 minutes at most depending on how organised you are. (No pun intended)

This is a very basic homemade Italian seasoning blends of dried herbs and spices but I tell you now, it is the best. It is quick and easy, I like making my own spice mix as I find everyone, I make unique to me. If you have never ventured into making your own seasoning mix, then let this be your first adventure into making some.

Truth be told, it is easy to just buy one of this premade seasoning packet from the store because it is affordable. I can as well just walk into Tesco or Asda (other supermarkets are available) to buy one now but I still find joy in making my own. I sell homemade spices “my active kitchen all purpose seasoning” and I am very choosy when it comes to the brands of herbs and spices, I add into my mix.  This girl here is one proud spice mixologist.

Enough of me selling this Italian seasoning mix to you lets get on to how to make it and what it contains. If I haven’t been able to sell this to you, it is worth knowing that by making your own spice mix, you know exactly what you are consuming. No hidden jargon, just herbs.

    Homemade Italian seasoning Ingredients

    Oregano

    Basil

Marjoram: I happen to have this on hand as I have used in testing spice mix in the past.

    What ratio should they be

I have used more of thyme, basil and oregano for the spice mix. You can either use the same quantity for basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram and rosemary. Alternatively, adjust the ratio according to the batch you would be needing.

    Italian seasoning recipe substitute

Like I mentioned earlier, you don’t have to use all the herbs listed above to achieve great and delicious homemade Italian seasoning mix. The main ingredients for making Italian seasoning are basil, oregano and thyme. In the absence of marjoram and rosemary, use these other dry herbs, sage, savoury, parsley. These are still Italian taste.

Other optional additions to your homemade Italian seasoning would be

    • Chilli flakes
    • Garlic powder
    • Onion powder

I tend not to add these as I can add them when I am cooking
